Werner's Motorbike Memory

Every once in a while when I look at the picture of Werner Voss with his motor bike, I get the impression that he took me on some kind of wild ride. This morning while driving to work, I was behind an old bike and I got the same impression again.

A flash of a forest of aspen type trees during the winter months when everything is bare and brown. The sky is overcast and grey. I'm on the back of Werner's bike. I'm a little apprehensive. I'm not sure where to put my feet or hands. I don't know where my feet end up, but I put my hands on Werner's sides to hold on. I'm not sure what we're wearing. He's got a long coat on and I think his flying helmet. I know I'm wearing my uniform pants and boots. I think this will be fun yet a little insane. I can't remember much of the ride except that I had to hold on tight. We rode through the trees, ditches, hillsides and over anything that would make me think that Voss was absolutely nuts.

It was fun, but it scared me. I thought I was going to fall off. I'm sure Werner found it amusing to have me clutch into his sides for dear life. This memory is short and flashes, but I doubt this is the only event of such rides. I'm not really sure why I ever rode with him again except that there is a certain amount of thrill from the possibility of being tossed about and seeing the ground zipping past. I think we went for a first ride through the woods and I probably chewed him out a little while he sat looking amused with me. We then took off down a long narrow road that had aspen forest on one side and a marshy field on the other. The land is rather flat. I prefer hills and mountains. This ride went much better because I didn't fear getting tossed off into a rocky ditch.
