Standing Around Memory

The ground is very muddy. It has been or is raining. I am playing with some of the water with my foot. I can see that I am wearing my black lace up boots. I'm in uniform. There is scattered grass in the muddy area where I am standing. The few tuffs of grass look very green. I can see a few raindrops fall into the puddles around me. I'm not sure why I'm looking at the ground. I've got the feeling that other people are around and talking, and my general impression is that I am getting bored with the conversation. It's not cold out just rainy. I look up when a black car comes near or towards us. I am standing with three other officers. We are casually attired.

I keep getting a flash of a photo that I have seen in books of me standing with Löwenhardt and two other fellows. The person from the car says something funny to us and we turn around to look at them because we had originally looked at them and went back to our present conversation. I guess they wanted to take our picture and our attitude was that we were going to be too obstinate to line up for a picture. The person came over after taking the quick shot. I can't see any faces clearly. I can check to see who is there beside Löwenhardt. I want to say Allmenröder is one of the other gentlemen, but the picture gives me no hint as to the other two are. The tall man could be someone like Lothar or Kurt Wolff. I'm not sure who took the picture, but it was someone that we saw on a regular basis and felt no reason to be formal with.
