Rabbit Hunting Memory*
This memory is directly related to Lt. Allmenröder's Memories of Manfred
I keep seeing myself with 3 or 2 rabbit corpses in my right hand. They are tied together for ease of carrying. The pelts are grey-brown. It is Fall. The ground is damp from a recent rainstorm. I am walking on fallen leaves. My rifles is slung over my left shoulder. I am walking in the woods.
My gut reaction to this hunting expodition is that it serves practical purpose and not just for me to get some time outside. I know that the rabbits are for the men back at the airbase. I wish I had more. I have a vague impression that sometimes we were short on food and I could indulge my hunting ability by going out and obtaining more meat for our chefs to use. I feel like deer would have yielded a more desirable amount of food, but I didn't find one.
