Reaction to Photo
Some of Schafer's memories are written in letter form to me, and since I don't want to mess with his wording, I have left them in his own words. Rittmeister.
Thanks for the picture eh!
That is the exact one, when I first saw it I thought the man in the middle closest to the camera was me, but I am unsure now and the caption didn't say who else was there other than you (Manfred) and Krefft.
I do remember coming out of a building once with some big wigs and we we were given a fantastic dinner which I think was wild game such as some sort of bird and I think a deer of sorts. I think there was also some very fine I want to say burgundy or perhaps red wine and afterwards we were given cigars. Some saved the cigars for later, but I stepped outside and lit mine up and enjoyed the sheer luxury of the fine cigar (at least it was fine by my standards).
I believe someone took a picture of us as we walked out. I noticed in the picture it appears that a few men are smoking cigars or a large cigarrete. Everyone looks very pleased and happy, possibly drunk.=)
Do you recall anything about that event or am I thinking of another picture?
After looking at the photo myself, I know that the man closest to the camera is Lt. Karl Emil Schafer. - Rittmeister
