The Concert
This memory is well before the war. I am in England somewhere in a concert hall. There is an orchestra and some singers from Ireland singing some Irish music. Since I am very familiar with Irish music in this life I recognise some of the songs.
I remember a very beautiful rendition of "The Minstrel Boy" being played. They were not able to sing the lyrics since it was a rallying song for a rebellion that took place in the late 1700s. It was the same story with "The Wearing of the Green".
Once the orchestra warmed up a young man came out to sing "When Irish Eye are Smiling". He also sang "Molly Malone" which is also known as "Cockles and Mussles". I also believe that he also sang "Spancil Hill". A young lady came out to sing a duet with him and it was "Spanish Lady".
There were some other song, but a whole Choir came out to sing "It's a Long way to Tipperary". I remember the band played very well and the whole audience started to sing along with them. It was all very exciting. That night I went back to the Hotel I was staying and I was wistling "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" as I walked the English Cobblestone streets.
