Church Memory

Flashes of a reddish brown horse with a black mane and tail. The animal is saddled and ready to be rode. I get the impression that I'm talking to the animal with encouraging words while stroking it's body with my hand. We are about to do something together. We are standing outside of a row of stables. I like this animal very much. It has wonderful soft eyes and big lashes. We are probably waiting to participate in one of those events that I have read about. Some kind of countryside race.

I am wearing riding boots and pants, but I can't tell what else. It could be a riding coat in grey? The memory is very faint. I get up on the horse and we start to move after I give a nudge with my feet. I'm so much higher off the ground. (I've never ridden a horse in this present life.)It's a neat feeling. I can see a row of stables to my right. There is a large hill about a mile or two ahead of me and just before me is a rolling hillside covered in green grass. Everything is a lovely green. The sky is a hazy overcast, but the temperature is comfortable. I believe that it may have rained the night before.

Many people have gathered to watch this event. I stop at the hillside where the other riders are collecting. We are to ride down into a grass covered valley. Off to my right is the large hill with a building or buildings upon it. Out front and left are several rolling hills that are covered with forest. That direction is eastward. I know that is eastward because I can visualize the spot where "we" are during the afternoon hours. As we all line up the horses to start the race, the horses become restless. I talk to mine and pat it reassuringly. I'm a bit nervous myself but very excited to be there. For some reason I see flashes of being in the race, but the rest of the memory evades me.
