Memory of the Dining Room- Probably Roucourt Castle
"It was a large rectangular room. The walls were white stone. It was plainly furnished but very elegant.
My overwhelming thought is of the comradeship I felt in this room. There is something about the seating.
Was there some ritual attached to this? I feel like I usually sat near the window and Manfred with his back to the fireplace.
I remember a long table with large arched windows to one side, with a huge stone fireplace along the opposite wall.
We would have a white table cloth on the table. The meals were served to the center, and were simple but plentiful.
There was a French family who cooked for us. I remember our mealtimes as a wonderful time of comradeship and bonding.
There were also many lively discussions. After the meal the pilots would stand in front of the fireplace and smoke."
