Memories of Emil Schaefer
"Emil was quite a character in 1917. He was experienced and confident and worldly. He was often a joker, but at times moody. He was friends with Manfred. He was easy to like because of his outlandish sense of humor. He didn't concern himself too much with rules or even regulations. He used to tease me because of my innocence. It was always with good humor though. I really admired him. Emil was an excellent pilot and his death shocked me because it made my own mortality seem even more precarious.
