Memories of Marburg
"I see rough waves hitting the shore of the river. I am in a row boat with another guy. It is overcast and windy today. I'm not sure why we are even on the water today. It is too choppy and rough. I don't feel any danger, just feeling like this is not at all enjoyable. I remember the quietness. In the summer the river Lahn is the center of life in Marburg. There are always boats on the water- it is the prime source of entertainment and sport. It is even used for transportation. We came out today to enjoy the river, because it is a novelty to me, but the weather is miserable. We knew we shouldn't have come"

"I remember a long room, with several long tables. There are large windows off to the left side. The door to enter is on the wall opposite the windows. We eat in this room. There are chairs not benches, and the university dean in his robes sits at a table at the front of the room. This room is a huge hall and part of a big old building. There is a lot of wood in this room. Although we use this room to eat in, it is also used for other purposes."

" I remember Marburg in the summer. The town is built on a hill. The homes at the bottom of the hill had lines of washing strung up between them. I remember the large clock on the town hall at the center of town. On summer days the river was filled with boaters."
