August 4th, 1914

Was it really ninety years ago that
Ignorance ended abruptly and the world imploded?
That we stood, young and eager to
Watch the storm of Satan's wrath well up

That we clamboured in awe to
Witness the devastation of his light'ning and thunder,
Pressing up against the glass of life
Lest we missed it all pass by

And go it did....

Taking thousands of young men to
Fall as drops in that thirsty metal rain:
Thousands, thousands of old men saw
The Harvest rendered, cut down, never returned

Left untended when the storm was broken
Little remains of where the hail stones once pitted
But hear, in the minds of the crop, nine
Decades have gone since they smote the land

******

Ninety Years since the crosses started,
Names scoured into hearts as well as wood;
Branded, tattoed with the pen of 'Survivor's Guilt'
Others, still crushed by ghosts desperate for home...
