Life as a Pict - a Pictish King

Life as a Pict

This lifetime is vague yet it has moments when it resurfaces very clearly and it intertwines with another possible life that I may have lived in the British Isles. I know that this life had to have been between the time period of Christ's life and 1042, which would have been the time when I was an Imperial Knight. I am now suspecting that I may have had two lives in this 1000 year time span.

I remember being a proud strong man with many responsibilities. I was a chieftain among chieftains. I was one of the first to be a leader of chiefs. We were not Scots. This I know from a strange almost antagonistic feelings I get about Scots. The Scots came to our land after us and mixed in with our people. I am unsure but I feel that we were the Picts and like the Scots had large family groups that would sometimes war with each other. I was a leader that governed over the leaders of these groups and during my lifetime, it was peaceful, which may sound strange from what I have heard about Pictish life.

I wore a gold circlet around my forehead much like a small crown. I had a wife that I think came from another place. She may have had Viking blood in her. She had strawberry blonde hair and was a strong willed woman that I loved dearly. I respected her very much and we had many strong children. I get the impression that we had about twelve kids and they were strong and healthy and I was very proud of these children. I sometimes get flashes of her face and of seeing the children running and playing. Our clothing was simple and layered to keep us warm, and we wore plenty of fur. We also were more cultured than what most people thought. We had a ploy we used against our enemies. We made them believe that we were wild vicious people to be feared, so we painted ourselves like primitives when we went to fight. Our reputation kept trouble away.

During the present lifetime I took up drawing Celtic knotwork, and just recently I learned that the Picts also did this kind of design work. I wouldn't know the difference between Irish, Scot or Welsh knotwork designs, but from what I gather there is a difference. Here are scans of the work that I did, but I doubt my knotwork compares with anything of great skill. I was told by a friend that he thought it looked computer generated. I don't know whether to pleased or insulted by that comment.

The blue body paint wode has been linked to the Pictish people. My strongest impression of wode is that it should be painted on in a very specific way. The lines should be thin and either knotwork designs or intricate swirling patterns. I feel somehow slighted or disgusted when I see people smear blue paint in heavy solid marks upon their body. An example would be the movie Braveheart where a solid coating was smeared on to the side of a warrior's face. I have not been able to explain this feeling nor do I have time to do any research on how wode was painted onto Pictish warriors. Of course, there may be no information on how Picts put on their wode. I don't know.

Memory of how I met my Wife

I was standing on the shore of a river bank. It was daytime about noon. A small Viking longboat comes along shore and I see a young woman aboard the ship. I am waiting to see a man that is aboard the vessel. He is important. I believe that he has come to discuss a peaceful solution to hostilities, which may sound odd when discussing Vikings. I am standing alone on the shore, but behind me the the forest and vegetation is filled with my Pictish Warriors. He is the son of a great Viking warlord. The woman standing on the ship is a teenager in years, which is close to my own age. She has lovely strawberry blonde hair and pale skin. She has a youthful fire about her.

I know I wrote this memory down many years ago when contacted by a young woman, who thought that she might have been that young woman. She may have been. I have lost touch with her and only have her photo now. I recall that when the man asked me what I wanted to be a part of the bargain, I told him that I wanted the girl. I think he was surprised that I wanted his sister. I know I have more memories of her and that incident, but at the moment they are locked away. Perhaps my Viking maiden will contact me again.
