Church Memory

I am very young and am wearing the white sailor suit as in one of the photos of me. So I am about 7 or 8 years old. I am inside a building. I think it is some kind of store. The interior is all wood. The walls and ceiling are painted white and the floor is natural brown. There is a little dirt on the floor because I can feel it under my shoe. I am under the impression that this is not considered to be classiest of shops in town. It is very "primitive".

This place looks like something out of the old American West. It has a very rustic feel to it. I can't seem to remember what was sold in this store. I keep thinking about candy though I do not believe this is a candy store. There are other people in the store. I keep seeing a woman with a full skirt, short cape, and bonnet walking by in dark colors. Her clothing is black and dark rust brown.

I think my mother is somewhere nearby. Perhaps at the counter speaking with the clerk. I am standing next to a box or a table with something in it or on it. The store is not big like modern stores of today. I can see a wooden stairway at the far end of the store. It leads up. There is a closed door at the top. It is one of those half doors that can be partially opened.

The ceiling is open and one can see the rafters and how the roof pitches at a sharp angle in the center. This is not a fancy shop. Outside it is overcast day. This shop has wooden stairs that lead up to it. The road is dirt. Behind and around are tall green evergreen trees. This shop is the last or nearly the last on the road into town. There is a hillside behind the shop that has many tall green trees.
